The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women. NIWEP lead a delegation of over 30 women, which included its partners in the Peace by Piece programme – Training for Women Network, Women into Politics, Women’s Tec, Footprints Women’s Centre – to the 52nd Session from 25 February to the 7 March. Northern Ireland Policing and establishment of a
Women’s Reference Group
The establishment of the Women’s Reference Group with the purpose is to promote mutual understanding between the Northern Ireland Policing Board (the Board), PSNI and the Women’s Sector with the aim of achieving a safer and more equitable community for all.
UK Joint Committee on Women
The UK Joint Committee on Women (UKJCW) is made up of four sister organisations from across the UK, comprising Engender, network of women’s organisations in Scotland, the National Alliance of Women’s Organisations (NAWO) in England, Women’s Voice in Wales and Northern Ireland Women’s European Platform.
The UKJCW was set up to co-ordinate a UK view with respect to the European Women’s Lobby (EWL) and to provide forums for discussion for and information to women and women’s organisations.

- eliminating discrimination against women
- advancing equal rights for women
- securing equal opportunities for women

States Parties to Women’s Anti-Discrimination Convention Elects 12 Experts to Serve on Monitoring Committee
In a secret ballot 181 of 183 States parties to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women elected 12 of the 23 experts that serve on the Committee that monitors States’ compliance with the Convention, with experts from Bangladesh, Japan and Mauritius receiving the most votes.
